The holiday of loooove {Bigger Picture Moment}

January is now over and our house departed from the first month of a new year in a nice way. We celebrated with spring cleaning in spring-like weather in the middle of winter. We also celebrated it with sidewalk chalk art and loud belly laughs.

And then Hello, February! And hello typical overcast winter blah-ness. Yeah, I just said "blah-ness" it is pretty much what February through April is around here. I loathe this time of year when winter just drags on her merry little way. Lingering sunless days making it just that much harder to wake up in the morning.

With all this blah-ness being announced you may think that I would eagerly look forward to the winter month holidays as a way to shake the mehs. To which I would reply with the answer... meh.

Yup, I'm not a communist, but I loathe Valentine's day, too. It is what it is folks... a hallmark holiday.

My kids, however, love it... Soooooo... In getting with the spirit; I told them we could decorate the house in love-like-stuff.

This made him very happy which alone made my heart sing just a little since he wasn't feeling very good.

Ahem, so I turned on some motown (kid friendly stuff, my friends) and went to work.

We sketched, painted, cut, and pasted. We stuck on stickers and hung up garland. We sat at the table and then moved the party to the kitchen floor.

And it was a lot of fun.

So I think... just maybe... kinda sorta... well... sure...I guess...

Valentine's day is kinda-sorta growing on me. We'll see how I feel on February 14th...

  1. V-day may be a total marketing ploy...but Love is always fun, especially if a little play time is involved. :) And your projects came out so beautifully! I just adore the pictures!

    1. "Love is always fun", indeed. And it was a much needed creative play time. For them and for me! Thanks for the compliment.

  2. Very sweet projects! Being a scrapbooker who is obsessed with paper, I will say that I LOVE your choice of papers! Not 'halmarky' at all!! I've got to decorate for the Patriots this weekend...but then perhaps a garland or two of hearts might worm their way into my place. The take away for me...creative time with our kids...always a win!!

    1. I used to love to scrapbook. It was so therapeutic. But now I have way too many pictures. And scrapbooking ocd, so that would be a chaos waiting to happen. I loved the paper, too. It is called love letters and I got it at Michels. Droooool... I love Michels.

Yes the take away- creative time! And it was the bomb. :)

    1. It was VERY infectious. I actually had a wonderful time thinking of fun things to do with hearts. And... I don't think I'm done decorating either. Bwahahahahaha...

  4. Girl, you're better than me: I don't decorate, almost EVER. It just feels like making a mess! But...how is it that I'm a tiny bit jealous of your beautiful mess?

(Now, I don't think your house is a mess. I'm just bad at expressing myself.)

I'm so glad you guys had fun and that now you maybe, *maybe* like V-day after all :)

  5. Valentines Day is fun, even though it's definitely a Hallmark holiday! I'm helping to throw the party at my daughter's preschool. :) But I think Groundhog Day is a better "holiday"....

  7. Yeah...I'm not big on Valentine's Day either. But little munchkins have a way of changing our view on things if even a smidge bit.

  8. Reminds me of how I always felt about Halloween, but I made myself get it together for the kids. And now they have outgrown it. I am sure some day I will miss it! Someday....

  9. Your decorations are beautiful! And I love the time spent together in decorating. Those moments are ones he'll love as he looks back and as you sit in them for years to come. How did you make the fireplace string of hearts?
